Dr. Galoian is a research associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. She holds PhD degree in Biochemistry and serves as Principal Investigator and Director of Musculoskeletal Oncology Signal Transduction Laboratory.
Dr Galoian has also important administrative responsibilities , she also leads Departmental IRB since 2006.Dr Galoian is Vice President of Chondrosarcoma Foundation . She joined University of Miami upon completion fellowship training in pharmacology at NIH, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania in Pathology Medicine Department, investigating leukemogenic fusion proteins. One of the important missions of Dr. Galoian's research career is mentoring .Dr Galoian is also Graduate Faculty of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular biology of the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Many promising talented medical graduate and basic science graduate students join the laboratory for training, resulting in multiple publications and podium presentations. The laboratory alumni have a high record of matching orthopedic residency spots in the US’s best medical schools. Dr. Galoian’s work has been published in prestigious journals and the work was presented internationally.
Her laboratory efforts are focused on understanding the molecular pathways leading to malignant transformation of progenitor mesenchymal cells, signaling and epigenetic pathways involved in sarcoma genesis . Most important aspect of the research are novel neuropeptides developed in the laboratory that demonstrated significant inhibition of sarcoma and other malignancies growth by targeting cancer stem cells responsible for disease recurrence and drug resistance. Dr Galoian is a member of prestigious national and International Societies, she has been serving as a reviewer for scientific journals and different grants.
