Postdoctoral Associate
University of Miami
Dr. Gauthami Pulivendala is a postdoctoral researcher in the Lombard Laboratory at the University of Miami, where she explores interrelationship between cellular metabolism and sarcoma biology. Dr. Pulivendala investigates the metabolic role of SIRT5 in the tumorigenesis of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST). Major part of Dr. Pulivendala's work includes exploring mechanisms that contribute to the growth and progression of solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) and identify novel therapeutic targets.
Dr. Pulivendala earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), India, where she investigated antifibrotic agents for pulmonary fibrosis, including peptide-based formulations for localized pulmonary drug delivery. She later started her postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan, studying fibrogenic roles of ChREBPα and TET1. Across her career, Dr. Pulivendala has developed extensive expertise in molecular biology and cancer metabolism. With a strong commitment to translational reasearch, her longterm goal is to translate basic discoveries into clinical applications ultimately leading to better outcomes for patients with rare and treatment resistant sarcomas.
