Data Scientist
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Elvis Duran obtained his PhD. in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University (TAMU), College Station, TX, USA. He also holds a BSc. in Mechatronics Engineering from Universidad Anahuac Mayab, Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. From 2012-2015, he worked as a Software Engineer in Plenumsoft Merida, where he developed machine learning algorithms for automated classification of airborne hyperspectral images. From 2015-2020 he conducted his PhD. studies in TAMU, where he implemented computational tools for oral cancer diagnosis based on multispectral fluorescence lifetime imaging (mFLIM) data processing. After completion of his PhD., he began working as a postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Engineering at TAMU, where he further developed computational algorithms for mFLIM data processing, and machine learning pipelines. In 2022, he started working as a Research Scientist in the musculoskeletal imaging department at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, USA. He is currently the lead Data Scientist and Project Manager of the advanced bone and soft-tissue tumor imaging (ABASTI) laboratory at MD Anderson, and his ABASTI research includes radiomics, machine learning-based diagnosis of musculoskeletal cancers, and development of computational tools for functional MRI data processing. His fields of expertise include software development, medical imaging, biostatistics, machine learning, and deep learning.
