Dr. Daniela Katz serves as Head of the Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center's Oncology Institute and Senior Lecturer at Hebrew University's Faculty of Medicine in Jerusalem. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sarcomas, rare cancers that require highly specialized expertise.
Dr. Katz received her M.D. from Hebrew University's Hadassah Medical School in 1996 and completed board certifications in Internal Medicine (2004) and Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy (2008). She furthered her specialization through a two-year fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (2008-2010), training under leading sarcoma experts to bring advanced treatment approaches back to Israel.
Her research focuses on developing and evaluating novel therapeutic strategies for soft tissue sarcomas and breast cancer. Dr. Katz has served as principal investigator for multiple Phase II and III international clinical trials, collaborating with pharmaceutical companies including Eli Lilly, Novartis, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Beigene. Currently, she is leading a Phase II pilot study investigating the combination of tislelizumab with paclitaxel as second-line treatment for angiosarcoma, exploring innovative immunotherapy approaches for patients with limited treatment options. She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, contributing valuable insights to the field of sarcoma treatment.
Dr. Katz holds key advisory positions with Israel's Ministry of Health, serving on committees that oversee clinical trials and the National Council for Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis & Treatment. She founded and manages the Israel Cancer Association's online sarcoma forum, providing evidence-based information to patients navigating these rare diagnoses.
In her academic role, Dr. Katz teaches medical students and supervises residents at Hebrew University, integrating her clinical experience into medical education.
Dr. Katz's work bridges clinical care, translational research, and health policy, advancing the standard of care for sarcoma patients in Israel while contributing to international efforts to improve outcomes for these challenging malignancies.
