Head of Research
Bone Cancer Research Trust, United Kingdom
I am by training a medicinal chemist with many years of experience, having led and contributed to several drug discovery programmes both in academia and industry.
After completing my PhD in synthetic organic chemistry in my native Spain, I was awarded a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship to specialise in medicinal chemistry, working with the late Professor Gary H Posner at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. In 1992 I moved to the UK to start my career in drug discovery working as a senior researcher at GlaxoSmithKline, where I contributed to the discovery and development of several drugs in the cardiovascular, respiratory and neuropathic pain areas.
In 2007 I joined the newly formed Institute of Cancer Therapeutics at School of Pharmacy, the University of Bradford, where I led my own research with a focus on cancer and teaching across the different disciplines of chemistry, drug discovery, drug toxicology and safety pharmacology.
In 2019, I retired form academia and active research to join the Bone Cancer Research Trust, where I now serve as their research manager.
I am the author of over 50 peer review publications, 4 book chapters and 5 patents. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7706-8586
