General Surgeon
Fundación Colombiana de Cancerología Clínica Vida, Colombia
My name is Hernán Camilo Luna Hurtado, and I am a General Surgeon from Medellín, Colombia, with a growing focus on surgical oncology. I completed my medical degree and residency in General Surgery at CES University, where I developed strong clinical skills and a deep interest in the management of oncologic diseases.
Currently, I practice at Hospital Manuel Uribe Ángel, where I work both as a General Surgeon and as part of the surgical oncology support team. In addition, I perform general surgery at Clínica CES and Clínica Vida. These roles have given me significant experience in managing complex surgical cases, with particular interest in gastrointestinal cancers and minimally invasive approaches.
Alongside clinical practice, I am actively engaged in academic and research activities. I have participated in guideline reviews, case discussions, and research proposals related to surgical oncology. My recent work has focused on exploring the role of intraoperative enteroscopy during laparoscopic surgery for small bowel neuroendocrine tumors and evaluating outcomes of laparoscopic versus open surgery for gastric GISTs in complex locations. I also enjoy teaching and mentoring residents in areas such as trauma and oncologic surgery.
I am committed to continuous learning and professional growth. My goal is to advance my training in surgical oncology, strengthen my academic contributions, and help improve cancer care in Colombia and Latin America. I believe that combining high-quality clinical practice with research and education is essential to achieving meaningful progress for our patients.
