Dr. Juan Barriga is an Orthopaedic Surgeon from Ecuador currently completing his senior year of clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology at Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Toronto. He obtained his medical degree from Universidad Internacional del Ecuador and completed his full Orthopaedic residency at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center in Israel, where he served as Chief Resident. His training across diverse healthcare systems in Latin America, the Middle East, and North America has shaped a truly global perspective on surgical care, research, and medical education.
Dr. Barriga has a particular interest in complex limb reconstruction, Musculoskeletal Oncology, and fostering academic collaboration between institutions in developed and developing regions. His long-term goal is to bridge the gap between advanced oncologic and reconstructive techniques practiced in leading centers and the realities of Latin American healthcare.
He is currently involved in technological surgery projects integrating intraoperative navigation and virtual reality to enhance precision, planning, and education in musculoskeletal oncology. Dr. Barriga strongly believes that progress in orthopaedic oncology must be shared globally through education, innovation, and equitable access to surgical technology. His professional mission is to contribute to the development of sustainable, high-quality orthopaedic oncology programs throughout Latin America while continuing to grow as a clinician, researcher, and educator within the international orthopaedic community.
