Dr. Carlos Torrado is an Assistant Professor with a dual appointment in the Department of Sarcoma Medical Oncology and the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics (Phase 1 Program) at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. His work centers on the development of novel therapeutics and biomarker-driven strategies for patients with sarcomas and other rare solid tumors.
He completed fellowship training in the Phase 1 Program at MD Anderson and advanced training with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP), with a focus on translational research and early-phase trial methodology. Dr. Torrado also undertook a fellowship with the Institute for Data Science in Oncology (IDSO) at MD Anderson and earned a Master’s degree in Genomics and Big Data in Oncology, reflecting his interests in integrating data science into oncology research.
Dr. Torrado has authored peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, The Lancet Oncology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and JCO Precision Oncology. His academic work has been recognized with honors such as the Conquer Cancer Foundation Merit Award, and he currently serves as an editorial fellow for oncology journals.
Originally from Spain, Dr. Torrado received his medical degree from the University of Navarra and completed his residency and fellowship in Medical Oncology at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville. His long-term goal is to integrate translational research, genomics, and precision medicine into clinical trial design to accelerate the development of effective therapies and meaningful endpoints for patients with sarcoma.
