Fabio Tirotta, MD, PhD

After graduating from the University of Insubria in Varese–Como, Italy, Fabio completed his training in general surgery across major institutions in Milan, including the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, where he worked in the Sarcoma Unit led by Alessandro Gronchi.
He subsequently undertook subspecialty training and fellowships at leading sarcoma centres, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Fabio also attended the Sarcoma Unit at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek – Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam as a visiting fellow.
Fabio is currently a Consultant Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and one of the very few consultants in the United Kingdom whose clinical practice is exclusively dedicated to the treatment of soft-tissue sarcoma, with a particular focus on retroperitoneal sarcoma.
He holds a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam, and his academic work centres on retroperitoneal sarcoma. Fabio is an active member of the Transatlantic Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group (TARPSWG), the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), and the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO).
