Hematology/Oncology and Clinical Informatics Fellow
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Dallas, Texas, United States
Brandon Rose, MD, MPH, was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in San Diego, CA. He earned a B.S. in Cell & Developmental Biology from UC Santa Barbara and a combined M.D./M.P.H. from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. During training, he completed an NIH NCI summer fellowship in Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, led data management for a COVID-19 surveillance project, and contributed to research in sarcoma, lung cancer, and the Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI). He also provided data support to his medical school's admissions committee.
During his internal medicine residency at the University of Miami, his biggest accomplishment was working with the sarcoma research group to grow their retrospective patient data from several multi-user excel sheets into a collaborative 4,000-patient REDCap database with data sources from the electronic health record, pathology, and more. He developed two open-source R packages integrating REDCap software and R computer programming (REDCapSync and RosyREDCap). He presented the results of these efforts at local, national, and international conferences, where he also taught best practices in creating reproducible data pipelines for cancer-related data management and analysis.
Dr. Rose is currently board-certified in internal medicine and pusuing an integrated fellowship in Hematology/Oncology and Clinical Informatics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is certified a "Physican Builder" with Epic Systems. He also serves on two national groups for the R coding language: REDCap and R Integration for Scientific Excellence (RAISE) and the R Medicine Conference Organizing Committee. Dr. Rose envisions a career where he can lead cancer healthcare through technological advancements while upholding his principles as a practicing medical oncologist.
