Dr. Chen is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and in Pediatric Pathology. Based at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, she is the Director of Autopsy Pathology within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Program Director for the Pediatric Pathology Fellowship training program. Currently, she is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Chen has experience in general adult and pediatric surgical pathology, autopsy pathology, and perinatal pathology with research interests in pediatric bone and soft tissue sarcomas, as well as germ cell tumors. In her clinical capacity, Dr. Chen participates in review and quality assessment of cases for the Molecular Characterization Initiative as a part of the National Cancer Institute’s Childhood Cancer Data Initiative. Dr. Chen participates in the Children's Oncology Group Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma Disease Committees. In the former committee, she has contributed to Quality Assurance projects in bone sarcoma biobanking, reviewing diagnoses and determining tissue quality. In the latter committee, through grant funded studies, she investigates the pathobiology of rhabdomyosarcoma, and provides critical pathology input on trial design and development, as well as case reviews following enrollment. She has contributed to trial reviews and also participates and leads biology studies on the materials obtained during the trial including work on delayed primary resections. She is a COG pathology collaborator of the International Soft Tissue Sarcoma Research Database Consortium (INSTRuCT), an international group focused on harmonizing the diagnosis and treatment of rhabdomyosarcoma globally, and is a member of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS). In addition, she is the Chair of Pediatric/Developmental Biology in the Pathology Committee of the Malignant Germ Cell Tumor International Consortium (MaGIC) and provides input on collaborative pediatric germ cell tumor studies.
