William Tap has been Chief of the Sarcoma Service, Division of Solid Tumor and Department of Medicine, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for the past 11 years. He is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed internships and residency training in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. His training in oncology and hematology included 36 months as a Fellow at University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.
Management of solid tumors and all subtypes of sarcomas have been the focus of Dr. Tap’s practice in addition to his extensive experience in translational medicine. He is currently overseeing the charge of clinical, basic science, and transitional aspects of Sarcoma Medical Oncology Programs at MSKCC. Another focus of his over the last year has been in developing an Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) clinic in the Sarcoma Service, which will soon expand to other solid tumor groups and further down the line, to other services at MSKCC.
Bill also has a tremendous interest in Global Health Care initiatives, specifically in effecting health disparity in underserved areas of the world. For many years he has worked closely with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and other committees in trying to change the landscape of these global issue while also spreading knowledge and awareness of soft tissue solid tumors.
