Roger Reddel is the Executive Director of Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) in Westmead (Sydney, Australia) and the Sir Lorimer Dods Professor, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. His training included medical degrees from the University of Sydney, Board certification as a medical oncologist, a PhD in cancer cell biology, and postdoctoral research in molecular oncogenesis at the US National Cancer Institute. His research at CMRI investigates the unlimited replicative potential ("immortalization") of cancer cells. He is best known for discoveries regarding the role of telomere length maintenance in immortalization, and especially the discovery of the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) mechanism. He chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of Tessellate Bio BV, a company that is developing synthetic lethal cancer therapeutics for ALT and other targets. With Prof. Phil Robinson, he founded ProCanĀ®, an internationally collaborative program for creating a large database of cancer tissue proteomic and clinical data using a single high-throughput proteomic platform to enable the routine use of proteomic data in adult and paediatric clinical oncology. He chairs the Board of ProCan Technologies Pty Ltd, and is a board member of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Luminesce Alliance, and Sydney Health Partners. He is an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
