Dr Thomas is a clinician scientist focused on the use of genomic technologies to the problems of cancer. He is the Chief Strategy and Science Officer for Omico, a non-profit company he founded as a national precision medicine program, and the inaugural Director of the Centre for Molecular Oncology at UNSW. He was the former Director of The Kinghorn Cancer Centre (2014-2021) and Head of Genomic Cancer Medicine at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (2014-2024). His work has influenced the management of giant cell tumor of bone, adolescent and young adult oncology, Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, precision oncology, and sarcoma genetics. Dr Thomas was President of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society in 2018, and received the 2024 NSW Premier’s award for the NSW Outstanding Cancer Researcher of the Year.
