Matthew Hemming, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UMass Chan Medical School and a medical oncologist at UMass Memorial Medical Center. He received his PhD in 2007 from Harvard University and his MD in 2012 from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hemming completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at the Dana-Farber/Partners Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
In 2017, Dr. Hemming joined the Center for Sarcoma and Bone Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he practiced as a physician specializing in adult sarcomas and performed laboratory research focused on sarcoma. In 2022, he was recruited to UMass to establish a dedicated clinical and research program in sarcoma.
Dr. Hemming is a practicing oncologist with expertise in the care of adults with sarcomas, and he leads the SarcomaLab at UMass as Principal Investigator. His research program is focused on both pediatric and adult sarcomas, with the goal of advancing biological understanding and developing new therapeutic strategies for these rare and challenging cancers.
