Undergraduate Researcher
Duke University
Ariana Matarangas was raised on Long Island, NY. She recently graduated with distinction from Duke University in Durham, NC with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Biology. Her research with the Visgauss Lab of Duke Orthopaedics focused on the oncogenic signaling pathways, particularly JAK/STAT signaling, and their role in promoting metastatic progression in chondrosarcoma. Ariana’s work aimed to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities in this treatment-resistant sarcoma subtype and contribute to the discovery of novel interventions. Ariana aims to pursue her interests in musculoskeletal conditions as a clinician-researcher, with a particular focus on orthopedic oncology. She intends to continue advancing both clinical and translational research throughout her medical training. When she is not working on research, Ariana enjoys photography, sports, traveling, and coaching youth basketball. She values collaboration, patient advocacy, and the role of storytelling in medicine, interests she hopes to integrate into her future career.
