Oleg Vyrva was born in 1966. He received his Medical Degree with honors from Kharkiv National Medical University, Ukraine, in 1989. He subsequently completed a residency in orthopedic surgery and earned a PhD from Kharkiv Postgraduate Medical Academy in 1997. Since then, he has served as Chief Medical Officer at the Sytenko Institute in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He is also Founder & Head, Ukraine’s first Bone Tumor Department.
Dr. Vyrva has completed several prestigious international fellowships, including adult joint reconstruction at Deaconess Hospital (Cincinnati, USA), musculoskeletal pathology at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute (Bologna, Italy), and total hip and knee replacement at Wellington Orthopedics (Cincinnati, USA) and Samaritan Hospital (Cincinnati, USA).
In 2011, Dr. Vyrva was awarded the academic title of Professor of Orthopedics, Traumatology, and Bone Oncology by the National Ukrainian Medical Academy. He has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, and has delivered hundreds of lectures and surgical training sessions around the world. His primary topics of expertise include joint arthroplasty, bone defects management, complicated trauma surgery, revision endoprosthesis, and bone, soft tissue tumor reconstruction, including complex pelvic resections.
An active member of numerous international professional societies—including MSTS, ISOLS, EMSOS, and AAOS—Professor Vyrva has also served as a long-time Board Member of EMSOS. He actively mentors orthopedic residents and fellows, and is a member of the editorial boards of several Ukrainian specialty journals, in addition to serving as a reviewer for leading American and European orthopedic journals.
Professor Vyrva holds 38 Ukrainian patents and is the creator of the Ukrainian Tumor Modular Endoprostheses System. His clinical expertise encompasses joints arthroplasty, complex joint reconstructions, management of failed and infected prostheses, limb salvage surgery for both adult and pediatric patients. With more than 15,000 surgeries performed, he remains one of Ukraine’s leading consultants in orthopedics, trauma, and orthopedic oncology.
