J.C. Neilson MD is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic
Surgery and has been chosen by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America. Dr. Neilson specializes in musculoskeletal oncology and cares for patients with a wide range of pediatric and adult musculoskeletal issues. His clinical emphases include musculoskeletal tumors, bone and soft tissue sarcomas, limb salvage surgery, minimally invasive approaches for metastatic bone disease, and osseointegration for amputee patients.
Dr. Neilson’s research interests include minimizing wound complications following sarcoma resection, identifying adequate margin status following sarcoma resections, and minimally invasive techniques to manage pelvic and sacral tumors. Additionally, Dr. Neilson has been significantly involved in medical student, resident, and fellow education at MCW.
Dr. Neilson graduated from Mount Mary University in South Dakota in 2000 and received his MD degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in 2004. From 2004-2009, Dr. Neilson completed an internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and served a fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey from 2009-2010.
Dr. Neilson joined the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2010 and has worked tirelessly to help develop the F&MCW Sarcoma Program into a world class program. He is an Assistant Professor and has served as Division Chief of the Musculoskeletal Oncology section at the Medical College of Wisconsin since 2017.
