University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
Nikola Susic is a third-year medical student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM), where he is pursuing a Doctor of Medicine degree with a scholarly concentration in Biomedical Engineering. His research interests center on orthopedic oncology and biomedical innovation. Under the mentorship of Dr. Brooke Crawford in the Department of Orthopaedics, he investigates clinical outcomes of limb salvage therapy for proximal tibia tumors. He also works directly with the Sarcoma Investigation Group at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Institute, where he has contributed to several projects, including the development of longitudinal research databases. Additionally, Nikola leads a bioengineering project in interventional radiology, developing novel securement devices for percutaneous catheters, and has worked on several projects focused on techniques such as percutaneous cryoablation for the treatment of musculoskeletal tumors.
Beyond research, Nikola is actively involved in medical education, leadership, and community service. He serves as Executive Director of Medical Informatics for UMMSM’s Department of Community Service, where he manages clinical databases and supports free health fairs serving underserved South Florida communities. He is also the co-president of the University of Miami Student Climate Committee, where he has spearheaded projects focused on reducing medical waste and donating unused medical supplies to underserved regions worldwide. Lastly, he serves as a board member of the Serbian American Medical Association, helping to expand access to healthcare resources in the Balkans.
Nikola aspires to a career as a physician-scientist in musculoskeletal oncology, integrating clinical practice, research, and innovation.
